There are some products that can clearly be bought more cheaply via the internet than by using traditional stores. Despite this, many of us have been slow to pick up on the advantages of internet shopping in some instances. If you’re anything like me, you may be concerned about the idea of buying clothes online.
I’ve had numerous friends telling me that it’s cheaper to buy clothes in this way but they’ve been struggling to convince me. How could it be as good as shopping in a real store where I can touch the clothes and try them on before I buy?
To see whether I was really missing out on anything, I thought that I’d carry out a little investigation into the pros and cons of internet shopping. This article is all about what I’ve found out.
So firstly, is it really cheaper to shop online? My experience would indicate that it’s not always cheaper but that it certainly can be. It’s rare that internet stores can’t at least match their high street rivals when it comes to price.
The reasoning behind this seems to be that online stores will generally have lower overheads, meaning that they can pass on lower prices to customers. Why should their overheads be lower?
There are a number of reasons why they might have lower overheads in the first place but two major factors will be that they don’t need to maintain expensive premises in central locations and that they don’t need to have a large team of sales staff.
But isn’t it a disadvantage that they don’t have those staff? Possibly, but it probably depends on how you shop. If you rely heavily on the sales assistants then you may well find that you miss not having them there.
The other question that concerned me was the thought that you couldn’t try before buying. Seeking out online stores with flexible returns policies will largely take away this concern. It’s also obvious that you’ll be choosing from a larger range of clothes online.
So internet shopping is frequently cheaper and you’ll generally have a larger range of items. You won’t, however, have access to sales assistants in quite the same way. Make use of returns policies if you need to try before finally buying.
