Shabbat shel Shalom – Fall 2017

Shabbat shel Shalom – Fall 2017
Event on 2017-11-10 14:00:00
Wow! Thank you all so much for your interest in our Fall Shabbaton for Shomer Shabbos girls. We received such fantastic responses from so many of you! We are excited to announce that we have found a wonderful, lakeside property in Long Pond, PA. It's a two hour drive from NYC and comes loaded with some great amenities, including a game room! Plus, there's a firepit for Motzei Shabbat marshmallow roasting and possible kumsitz-a-thon. There is also plenty of parking for all the carpoolers. It won't be fancy – just a nice relaxing weekend with new and old friends; a simple, beautiful Shabbos away from the city in a cozy home with a beautiful view. The weekend schedule is planned as follows: When: Veteran's Weekend, November 10-12Arrival: Friday, November 10 anytime after 1:00 pmCandlelighting: 4:29 pm Shabbos afternoon: If you would like a Shabbos party, well- guess what, we planned for that too! Motzei Shabbat: Kumzitz, Movie, Pizza, Pasta, S'mores and more. Sunday: Early Afternoon Fabulous Farewell BBQPlease note that there is limited space available and sign-up is first-come first-serve. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email aidelk@gmail.com. If anyone has anything to share or add to make this Shabbos even more amazing (like a guitar for the Kumzitz) – please please let us know! Looking forward to meeting you all and Chag Sameach!! Aidel Kagan, Suri Schachter & Mindy Schachter   FAQs Why are you making a Shabbaton anyway? It all started on the Subway (as you do). on a long commute to Manhattan. We were discussing how unfair it is that there are rarely any events for frum girls to just connect (and sing!). We were also dreaming of a weekend getaway to relax and recharge. We realized that by using our combined skill sets (aka superpowers) we can totally organize a fun, relaxing, and friendship-building Shabbaton for you guys. We are super excited to plan this wonderful, warm, and welcoming November Shabbaton. We would go so far as to say that we're hoping that the success of this Shabbos will be the beginning of many annual or even semiannual Shabbatons in the future!! 100 points to Gryffindor for Ahavas Yisroel initiatives!! So, you HAVE done this before? Not a Shabbaton per se. But we've organized various Europe vacations for ourselves and friends, as well as large family Chol Hamoed trips. We pride ourselves on our organizational skills, as well as creating fun, memorable trips. Why is your name so weird? Well, we all understand the meaning of Shabbat Shalom or Good Shabbos. It is a universal phrase to unite Jewish people. What better way to connote a Shabbos of peace, tranquility, friendship and Ahavas Yisroel?! What kind of girls are attending this event? We're maintaining a frum, shomer shabbos, kosher atmosphere. While we may not have a minyan or sefer torah, we will still have plenty of zemiros, Kabbalos Shabbos singing, and time for davening. Just don't hold it against us if we're a little off-key! Are there minimum age requirements?  Yes, this is a post seminary event. If you are under 21, please contact us before booking. Where is this house?  At the corner between happy and healthy. Nope, that's Walgreens. (But also us, relatively speaking) It's a fantastic home in Long Pond, Pennsylvania that is lakefront! Seriously, how cool is that! There are some kayaks and a paddleboat but we can't promise that the weather won't be freezing soooo….. we'll see. It's also right near a small island-ish area with a beach that has a small bridge that we can easily walk over on Shabbos and sit by the water. Ugh, how beautiful does that sound?! There's a garage with a game room including a foosball table, ping pong, air hockey, pool table and even some board games. Aaaand, there's even a community pool, volleyball, and tennis court! You're Welcome! The exact address will be disclosed two days prior to the event. What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event? Blame the subway for not being that extensive yet. There is space for parking available. Carpool is encouraged and will be organized through the Facebook event page. Where will I sleep? Heads up, the sleeping arrangements will include various sized beds and some king/queen/full size beds or bunk beds, so sharing will be required. (and no, we can't save certain beds) If you're uncomfortable sharing a bed with a stranger, bring a friend!  Or use a sleeping bag in your bed. But it's still better than camping outdoors in the winter, right? All linen and towels are included. Each room has anywhere between 4-9 people so we'll be nice and cozy. Giant sleepover, anyone?? Where can I shower? There are three bathrooms and two showers, but we recommend showering for Shabbos at home because:  1. 30 women showering= 0 hot showers 2. Shabbos is starting really early and we don't want to take any chances. What can I bring? Never thought you'd ask! A spreadsheet will be shared on our Facebook event page closer to the event. Please contact us for specific details. What's the refund policy? While we're having lots of challah, we're not rolling in the dough, so unfortunately, we cannot give refunds. Tickets are transferable if you have a friend who might like to take your place. But seriously guys, this is a not-for-profit event. All care is being taken to make this affordable and welcoming for all and we budgeted the costs to match the price you're paying. Is this a shidduch event? No, this is not a shidduch event. Although, isn't every event the opportunity for some genuine-nice-working guy's-sister to see how amazing you are? Like all of our yiddishe mama's say "Ya never know!"But no, the motivation behind this event is to spread ahavas Yisroel and get to know new, frum girls in a relaxed and beautiful setting. There are plenty of shidduch related events but only one of these. Also, don't you want a break for a weekend from shidduchim?! Again, you're welcome! What is the Kashrus of this event?  This event is completely Chalav Yisroel and glatt kosher. All meats and other grocery items will be purchased from Bingo grocery. We may possibly be ordering some food from Meisners or MealMart, but we may also cook some food in the homes of the organizers who maintain a high standard of Kashrus and use only kosher ingredients. We're not talking strictly Paskez or Gefen, but everything will have a reliable hechsher. If you have any allergies, please let us know.  Sorry, but who are you? Who are YOU, the FBI? Lol. But seriously, here's us (all post seminary and with a degree) in a blurb:         Aidel Kagan:  Bostonian currently living in Flatbush. Being a Medieval Jewish History major has made her an incredibly knowledgable tour guide of Rome and other Italian cities. Resourceful, splendid and can start a conversation with LITERALLY anyone, about ANYthing.             Suri Schachter:  Flatbusher, Mathematics major, future Actuary, singer of tunes, coconutter, planner of 3 seriously incredible trips to Europe, explorer of the world, creative weirdo, makeup aficionado, maker of cool healthy foods, and bonus points; she really loves to make new friends.           Mindy Schachter: Avid reader, music listener, Psychology major and most importantly, coffee drinker. Co-planner to all those incredible trips, skilled in macaron creations and all the cooking things. How can I contact the organizers? Talk to us! Please! The sooner we can get to know you the better.  Also, you can email us if you have any questions or concerns at aidelk@gmail.com
